Insurance is your responsibility. Whatcom Container Storage is not liable to you for any damages or loss to your property. You must obtain your own insurance or bear the risk of damage or loss yourself. We offer insurance information when initiating a storage unit contract. You are responsible for keeping a single lock on your unit. Use of more than one lock is prohibited.
It is not permitted to connect any electrical appliance or item to power inside your storage container. If you have lights, we ask that you turn off and disconnect from power when you leave, to eliminate risk of fire and keep power costs down.
Please notify us, in writing/email, within 10 days, of a change of address or phone number. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of contract.
Vacating Your Storage Unit: We require written/email notification of intent to vacate your storage unit 10 days in advance of the date you plan to empty your unit. We request that you leave the unit clean and remove your personal lock. If you do not remove the lock, we will consider the unit still under your possession and continue to charge the prevailing rate.
We do not permit storage of:
Flammable or Combustible Items
Anything that can catch fire or explode is not allowed, including (but not limited to): gasoline, propane, oil, grease, chemicals, cleaners, paint, fireworks, explosives of any kind, etc.
Toxic Materials
Do not store chemicals, fertilizers and everyday cleaning products (fumes can mix and cause issues). This includes: chlorine bleach, ammonia, and solvents like acetone (nail polish remover), turpentine, paint thinner, or kerosene. Nothing that is poisonous or contagious.
Non-Operating, Unregistered, and Uninsured Vehicles
The only vehicles allowed are those that are fully registered, insured, and in operable condition. This includes boats, RVs, trailers, motorcycles, cars, and trucks. We will require proof of vehicle registration and insurance.
Stolen Goods and Illegal Drugs
Our staff is very aware that some criminals try to store illegal items in rented storage units. We like to get the reward for turning them in to the police. If you plan on putting your stolen goods here, also plan on going to jail. We will have video evidence of your crime. If you are a suspected criminal, it is very easy for a law enforcement officer to get a search warrant for a storage container. Please just don’t.
Weapons, Ammunitions, and Bombs
Firearms and ammunition are not permissible in storage containers. This prohibition also covers flame throwers, hand grenades, land mines, mortar shells, bazookas, nuclear bombs, or anything that will make the FBI or ATF think you are a terrorist.
Perishables
Perishable items are prohibited. This would include food items that need refrigeration, those not in properly-sealed containers, and dry pet food in bags. Some canned food items are also not allowed as they can deteriorate in non climate-controlled conditions. These items attract bugs and rodents and encourage bacteria and mold problems to develop.
Live Plants
Plants, like perishable food items, can attract bugs and pests as they decay in the dark. If you cannot take care of your plants, don't put them in storage, give them away or plant them outside.
Wet Items
Things that are put away in storage while they are still wet can cause mold and mildew to grow. It is OK to store things that you used in the water like a raft, kayak, canoe, surfboard, and scuba gear (but not the air tanks), just make sure everything is thoroughly dry before putting it away in storage, so it does not get ruined by moisture.
You! People and Animals
If you are featured on a poster at the Post Office, or just a little down on your luck, please do not even think about hiding out in a rented storage container. We have cameras all over the property. A storage container is not a place for any animal to live either.
Use good common sense and ask the staff before you try to store something that might be prohibited. We would be happy to help. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
